That depends upon the variety. Some are very floppy. Some grow like polyanthas and hold themselves upright. Others are like shorter "ramblers" and lay on the ground. Perhaps if you gave it support from a plant stand or made a chicken wire "pillow" for it to rest on, it may be more upright? Kim

erm, that is why they are called 'ground-cover' roses, also known as procumbent roses - they are meant to 'flop' on the ground. Rest assured, the rose will be completely happy lying on the floor - the flowers will still raise their faces to the sun and the stems will be quite OK about being prostrate. It is a fruitless and annoying task, attempting to train plants against their natures but, if you are still unhappy, then pop a few pea sticks or woody prunings around the plant and let the stems mingle with the woody supports which will quickly become invisible. There are also various wire supports on the market which will keep the plant more upright.....but I suggest you look for another more upstanding plant such as a neat little floribunda or polyantha.

Roses are especially floppy in spring when all the new growth and blooms weighs them down. Add a little rain shower and even my large shrubs try to flop. Don't judge your little rose or take any drastic measures until mid summer or fall when you can see the true growth habit.

Well, the fact is, there is no such thing as a ground cover rose as most folks define "ground cover" . . .

Actually, Jaxondel, there is: R. Wichuralana poterifolia. It lies flat on the ground, roots itself as it goes, and is almost evergreen. Look it up on hmf. I have one plant that covers a slope 20 x 10.

Oh for sure - Nozomi, Suma, Grouse, Partridge (and other 'gamebird' series) - Grouse is less than 1foot but spreads to 10feet or so.

Yup. Ground-Cover = FLOP. Meant to lie on the ground as a carpet of roses.

Roses need 6-8 hours of sun per day. Not enough sun will cause your rose to strain for the sun and flop over. Also, too much nitrogen will cause roses to flop vs phosphorous and potassium.
