Rose bud problem

Hi

I have a rose that this year has developed malformed buds (see photo). It doesn't appear to be a gall as the inside of the green growths in the centre of the flower just have tightly wrapped petals inside them. There is no visible sign of an insect or larvae but who knows? The rest of the rose looks healthy and no obvious sign of fungal attack.

Any advice as to what this is would be much appreciated.

That looks like a bad case of proliferation. Have you had some cold temps as the buds were forming (they take about 6 weeks). If the rest of the plant looks ok, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, it is genetic in origin but expressed only under certain weather conditions. If it is a repeat-blooming rose, it should bloom normally later in the season. Would you share the name of the variety?
