I am a regular on the kitchen forum but have a rose question. Our dear friends just had a beautiful baby named Carolina Alexandra and we would like to gift her a rose that will grow up with her. Can you help us identify a lovely rose with the name Carolina or Caroline?

We live in the Northern Virgina area.Thank you soo much for your help!

The only one I grow is Sweet Caroline, a miniature. It's pretty..white with deep pink edges, but gets a little blackspot here. If you do a search for either Carolina or Caroline at www.helpmefind.com/roses you will see many more choices. There is a " buy from" tab at the upper right of the individual rose pages so you can see who carries that rose.

'Lady Carolina' See:

Light pink, and a prolific bloomer -- tho very vigorous, of considerable size, and an excellent deterrent to incusions of bears, livestock, or burglars due to its many nasty prickles. :-)

I've grown Lady Carolina, the bigger than a mini, rose for about six years. It's excellent with excellent repeat and disease resistance.

It's a great rose for this side of the country, especially for folks who don't want to spray, but really don't want the rose to die of fungal disease-induced weakness.

Jeri,

Would Lady Carolina grow well in SB? Seems I have a certain corner of the lot that the fence appears to be used regularly to gain access undetected to the orchard. And a favorite mandarine tree with a picked side....

I trimmed trees down there and thought that it would be an excellent place for an old rose with LOTS of thorns.

It's the perfect thing for that, Kippy! It's not as big as Mermaid, but it's pretty big. It can take pruning, if you want to do that. It's disease-free here -- at least, it is, as far as I can see.

The only caution I offer is that it WILL tip-root, thereby colonizing a large area, but that allows you to give little plants to friends.

Jeri,

Is Vintage still selling this rose? I get confused on their website...

Or is there any other place you know of that sells them?

Kippy, I don't find it there. I'm going to be away much of tomorrow, but Monday I'll go down there, and see if it has tiprooted again. If it HAS, I can give you one.

I did a HMF search on Caroline and the only roses I know are Mme Caroline Testout (the climber is particularly good if it agrees with your climate), Caroline de Sansal and Caroline de Monaco (a white HT). At least they should be commonly available.

RE: Rose named Carolina or Caroline Help,

Thank you everyone for your assistance! Jerijen, will look into Lady Carolina! I also found Carolina Moon, which is a light yellow rose; my friend, the baby's mom, likes yellow roses. Hopefully I can find these varietals in our area for purchase!

You are all so very kind! Thank you again!!!
