First Bloom! Supposed to be Chrysler Imperial...

| Hello, Rose Friends! Up in the cold north I finally have my first bloom of the season and lots of other buds waiting to pop, so exciting after our "Snowmageddon" winter! This one is from a bush that is supposed to be Chrysler Imperial that I bought and planted last year but didn't see bloom. The bloom is a very fragrant, big beautiful deep hot pink though, not the red I expected. After looking at HMF I see some have a pink look to them, do you guys think this is really C.I. or do I just have to wait and watch through the year checking bloom color. Do some just stay pink depending on growing conditions? I do adore pink roses so it is not an issue, but I would like to know what rose it is. The color of this bloom is almost exactly like Perfume Delight, which I grew in the past. Thanks and happy gardening, Andrea

The crimson HTs are highly variable in color--deep pink, true dark red, burgundy--so that bloom is not grounds for suspicion.

Thanks, Michaelg! I just noticed some leaf photos on HMF and compared them and mine are exactly as pictured so I think it really is the Chrysler Imperial, even some of the buds that are opening this morning are darker looking. How exciting to have so much variation with one bush!

Beautiful flower. It could be CI, but mine are always deep red and not that tall of a bloom. That one looks more like Elizabeth Taylor to me but I guess it could be CI.

KC, right, it is unusually well-formed for 'Chrysler Imperial', but that can vary too.

The CI I planted this year. Picture taken April 30. It has been sleeping since then.

Andrea - Whatever it is, I'm glad your roses are beginning to bloom. I am looking forward to seeing more of them, you have some lovely ones.
