Yeah, but we were just as unhappy with the cold weather in January. Weather is always something we can't control, only complain about, lol!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

So very true :)

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

I also can't believe the weather lately! Here's hoping no one loses power tomorrow. We've already got the heat advisory warnings popping up on our cell phones.

Planning to get out nice and early and water, water, water!

Yeah, I set my alarm to get up and water early too. Then I'm going to the pool!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

ugh its 81 and its only 10:30!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Yeah, that thermometer is sure climbing fast! 11:30 here and it's 88. The weatherman said we might hit 100...ugh.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

11 am here; temp is 91, heat index is 93, and humidity is currently 42%.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

I don't think it will reach over 100 its 3:41 here and its 94-96 degrees

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

I just check and it is 99 here, this has got to be a record breaker.

So far no power outages so that is a positive! Wondering if I should venture out and water again...

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

6:30 and its 95-97 so it didn't make it to 100 (yay)

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

102 here in Central Illinois. I'm watering quite a bit!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

I am afraid we are having another hot and dry summer like last year. The grass is already looking stressed, and the roses are not looking as vibrant with this heat. I hate this heat!!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

It's 6:40 here in the desert, and it's 94. Since we didn't have the premature hot spring many of you had, this is about as hot as it's gotten. I can't imagine 102 in Illinois already. That's middle of July weather. My sympathies. Diane

RE: Here we go.. Again

Everything is yellow this year instead of green. Grass along the interstate and in the medians is normally a lovely, apple green color but it's been yellow to brown for the majority of this month.

Last weekend the report was 22% of Illinois crops are showing drought damage & the number was expected to rise; this won't be good for (consumers') beef prices, ethanol, etc in the coming months. Two months ago 0% of our state was in a drought. Now 100% of the state is.

Like Dan said, it's a battle this year to keep things hydrated. I have never before had to water every day. I went out to bury some dead fish from the neighbor in the rose bed & the area I'd watered the day before was as hard as cement. I couldn't get the spade to turn earth.

We did end up in triple digits late yesterday & we're expected to do so again today. I just cannot believe the lack of humidity. It's a real double-whammy for us. Playing softball for the last 2 nights, the dust just hangs in the air and gags everyone. Normally the humidity here is so high that it tamps down the dust on a ball field, but not this year.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Oh wow I thought IL had weather like us (ohio). It only got to 97 here yesterday and I think we might have a few pop up showers today (YAY!)

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Normally we aren't that different from y'all....but this year, there appears to be Saran wrap over the top of us and the normal humidity is absent. It's 37% at the moment, and normally in summer we're at least over the 50% mark every day. There just isn't any moisture available in the air to gel into anything.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

The heat has been tolerable here but its just bad because is so dry.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Early afternoon here in Kansas and 96 degrees. Could still top 100 by later in the day (as it has for the past week or so)!

Ugh!

Kate

RE: Here we go.. Again

Rain!! We are going to get hammered :D

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Oh I'm so jealous of all you rain receivers! We are right above that storm in Michigan so we've been waiting and waiting and the sky got dark and we were on pins and needles for a shower or two but nope, went right on by underneath us and the sky lightened back up...ugh. At least it's not blazing hot out like yesterday.

103 here in Knoxville today (so says my car & the sign at Walgreens anyway), and 95 at 9pm last night! Crazy....and only rained once in the past 3 weeks and none on the forcast :(

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

107 in Nashville yesterday, and we don't have any rain in the forecast either. I have several new things I planted this year, plus some stuff still in pots, and I can hardly keep up with the watering.

My mom comes over during the day sometimes to let our dogs out, and sometimes she also waters. The other day she watered some of my new additions. When I checked them at 8 that night they were dry as a bone, so I watered them. Found out later she had watered the same things at noon, and you couldn't even tell.

RE: Here we go.. Again

grief- we are almost in July and we have not even had a summer day yet! Honestly, we had our hottest day of the year way back in March. Then there was the hosepipe ban because there had been so little rain for 2 years - the very evening the hosepipe ban was declared, the rains started and have not stopped. Flooding all over the UK, even giant hailstones which actually killed an elderly man - battered to death! Blight is ever prevalent, tomatoes are still 6 inches high with little curling brown leaves and strawberries. although finally going red, are tasteless (altho the offspring have been dipping them in chocolate). I really, really want to be prostrate with some heat and since I have to water every day anyway, I am filled with envy. I can count warm days on one hand so far.
OTOH, the roses have been going forever, massively green and lush (and blackspotty), the sweetcorn is surging, beans are rampaging and I have not yet had the start of the 2 month jamming and preserving nightmare (currants still green, not a tomato in sight) so am reading lots of sci-fi (my guilty pleasure) and listening to music in the kitchen,

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

we are going thru all of this also we did get a little rain last nite,my husband says even what we got will help the corn
What I am wondering is since everything happened so early are we going to also have an early winter

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

The forecast for the rest of the week is 102 today, 104 Thursday, 102 Friday, 106 Saturday and 104 Sunday with a don't count on it chance of rain. Tuesday of next week we will finally get a break, with them forecasting a temp of 93.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

mori1--Kansas has got the desert here beat on temps--it will hit 103 in a couple of days (and I still need to plant a rose; how did I get myself into this??). However, we tie with Tuscon on annual precip, and I can't remember the last time it rained here--sometime last spring, I guess. Diane

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Now you all know why I cry about Kansas gardening. We've been in the 100's for more than a week with another week to go before a "break"; into the mid-90's.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

We're just a few degrees shy of you here in Illinois, Prof. I remember the worst heat I've ever experienced was in Garden City as a teenager--and remember, I'm one of the kooks that enjoys this heat.

No break until Tuesday of next week, I believe.

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

Actually, I grew up in Nebraska where we would have some pretty hot 100+ days but not this many days in a row.

102 yeaterday! That's really rare for Michigan and in particular for me on the lake. The water usually keeps us a few degrees cooler in the summer. But at least we've finally had some good soaking rains. I think I could actually hear the roses sighing in relief!

 o
RE: Here we go.. Again

That was not a nice storm.. you guys should be glad that you didn't get it. It was horrible 80mph winds, uprooted huge trees down power lines everywhere and we have had our power off until a few hours ago. Its been off for a week.. 90-100 degree weather with no AC it was horrible. there are still tons of people with out power.
