We just bought our first climbing rose- America- and I need to know if I should deadhead spent blooms? And if so,, how? is it like deadheading tea roses? Some of the new blooms are coming out of 3 adjoining stems... I want to give this new rose the best chance to grow and establish itself this summer.

When I deadhead, I usually just snap off the spent flowers with my fingers.

one of my best buys was a long handled secateur thingy called a snapper - not only does it enable you to reach high growth without bumbling about on ladders, it cuts the rose off just behind the pedicel at the natural abscission point (where the rose breaks naturally) and holds onto the spent blooms so you can remove them into a handy container and compost them. Mine is by Fiskars and I think Darlac do one too.
