| My kids, great ones at that, gave me a gift cert to the nursery.
I am thinking Felco's, since our pruners were cheap to start with and I have caught mom cutting wire with them.
Ladies, which do you like the best?
Or should I pick out plants.....oh dear what to do. |

Felco no 7 for me. Rotating handle - easy to replace springs and blades. Also, a little notch for cutting wire at the bottom :-)

I'm a #2 Felco guy, myself....never noticed a notch, though for cutting wire; sure you didn't create one caldonbeck?

Rotating handle Felcos, hands down! (not a "lady", but chiming in!) No blisters, no calluses due to rotating handle. They're about twelve years old now and work flawlessly. I haven't treated them with kid gloves and they have a million miles on them. These things last forever and you can buy replacement parts for them so they can actually last a life time. Plants come and go, but a GOOD pair of clippers is forever! Kim

My Felco's #6 (the first and only ones I've had) rusted comepletely within a couple months of use. In fact the very day I got them straight from Felco, they started rusting already when I set them on the edge of my landscape timbers while I worked at something else! I tried using that cleaner spray for Felcos, as well as 3-in-1 oil, steel wool, couldn't get them back to looking good at all! A defect from Felco? I haven't bought one since! I got mine at AM Leonards, a set of stainless steel bypass pruners, and they still look great after a year or two of use! I don't know what was wrong with my Felco, but either it was a defective set or something? |

lol professorroush - no there is definitely a notch :-) - copied from felco website: "Efficient: easy, durable cutting adjustment / wire cutting notch / sap groove" re rusting - had mine for ages and they are still perfect and they have had some abuse. I use a diamond file every now and again, but if they get bad, the new blade is cheap. The only bit that is steel is the blade and anvil, the handles aren't so they won't rust anyway.

I have the Felco #7s too. I like the rotating handle because it saves wear and tear on my hands.

I've had my Felco's for several years, I have F6 and F2 as well as F22 and a pruning saw. Yes they all DO rust, but I simply have my husband clean them up in the winter and they look and feel like brand new again when he's done cleaning them.

I have Felco6 and so does my daughter because we have small hands. My son swears by the rotating handle but Mr.Camps is a No2 classic. We bought them, along with loppers, in 1997 and '98. Good tools (and they are) are priceless.

Lucky number 7 is sounding good. Do they have pink holders for them? It is an ongoing joke in the family that I need a pink rhinestone decorated tool belt....lol

I have two Felcos one I bought online, and a hardly used one given to me. They are good no doubt, wear well and last a long time. Rust have never been a problem, I do clean them now and then with a spray can type oil, but not much fuzz with them. If you rather want an extra rose or bag of fertilzer, you will do just as well with a lower priced one. There are lots of makers and good quality pruners. I have old secateurs, very old secateurs, new ones, very cheap ones, expensive ones, and medium priced. Most of them have done their job well, and some have been at least as good as the Felco. My favorite these days is not the felco but a handy small one with wooden handles. I don't really ned more or better seceteurs, what I need is to learn how ot sharpen them correctly ;-)

They do make a holster for them but you'd have to bedazzle it yourself, lol!
RE: Felco or

I clean my pruners with Pine Sol after cutting into diseased canes. Some folks use bleach, which is a sure way of making carbon steel blades rust.

Costco had a great looking set with two different hand prunners, spare blades and springs for $25 I should have gotten those when I saw them! BUT one of the local gardening companies must have come in and cleared the store out one day.
