You can safely ignore spittle bugs, though they suck a little plant juice.

They're pretty harmless. My mother used to just wipe them off her plants. I never had them in my yard that I know of. I see them a lot on plants where we go fishing along a lake.

definitely spittle bug....very common in farm country on alfalfa plants. Not much of a problem for roses or alfalfa usually. If you want to do something about them, the easiest thing is, mix 1 gal. water with 1 tsp. of liquid dish soap (Lemon Joy works real well). Spray the froth, this works good on other soft body insects like aphids also.

I seen that stuff on one of our roses a couple weeks ago.

We get spittle bug here all the time on rosemary and lavenders. I just hose them off and they usually don't come back. No need for chemicals or even soaps. A strong stream of plain old hose water does the trick. Kim
