A wild rose has sprouted up next to my very mature dogwood - it is on it and I want to know if it will harm the tree in any way?

If your dogwood is mature, I would say don't worry. I have roses growing up trees all over my garden, and none of the trees has been hurt yet. Can you post a picture of it? Jackie

Its possible that your volunteer rose is a treasure. Perhaps a bird deposited a seed from a far off garden and your rose is a new beauty waiting to be discovered. Most likely, it is rosa multiflora, a rampant growing invasive plant typically found in hedgerows. Multiflora is a common host plant for a disease called 'Rose Rosette'. Please watch your wild rose and if it is indeed multiflora, kill it. Thank you.
