Half a Knockout bush

Posted by nyboy none (My Page) on

The landscaper who cuts the grass some how mowed half a knockout rose bush. The bush is now very unbalanced. I want to prune it way down low. Is it to late in the season? Can I trim it almost to the ground and start over? Don't know anything about roses but love this bush. Thanks

I think you could safely prune it to 12", but I wouldn't. It will fill in some over the summer; then you can reshape it next spring, with severe pruning if necessary.

I would give strong consideration to getting a new landscaper. If he can't tell the difference between a rosebush and grass, he's not worth much.

I'd trim it and fertilize. It should stimulate the heck out of a Knockout.

I had a young fig tree that was basically a huge bush about four feet tall. My yard service mowed it down not once but twice. I no longer use a yard service. Can you imagine running over a four foot bush and not realizing it?

I would be deducting retail price of a 2 gallon KnockOut (or fig tree) from my next payment. There's NO excuse for this type of destruction.

Thanks guys, He had his son helping him. I have a lot of respect for kids who work, and let the matter drop.
