RE: Beetles

The spots on its back throw me, but otherwise, it appears to be a Hoplia Beetle, cousin of the Japanese Beetle. See below for links. Kim

Beerhog, I can't see the picture on this computer, but I'm in AR too. I figure you have what I have had for 3 or 4 years. They are rose chafers, the native born first cousins of the notorious Japanese beetles. Mist the buds and flowers every 2 or 3 days with Merit (imidacloprid). The best time is about 5:30 in the AM. That's when they are still half asleep from their night of feasting and fornicating. Kill all you can now. Every one that you kill will result in fewer next year - at least that's my theory. I applied beneficial nematodes last fall and this spring. It seems to have helped. They came out later than in years past and it seems there are not as many. Good luck. Where do you live in AR?

RE: Beetles

I see many/many beetles that looks like that on our front porch every year around now for a short time. I have never seen them on my roses.
