| Got up at 5 am, cut roses, put together two arrangements, and took off for our show. I cut tight because I was there for set up the day before and the inside of the greenhouse where we were was HOT! And humid! I didn't have much because of the thrips but took the best of what there was, didn't expect much, and didn't get much either, lol. But I did have a great time!
I did get a blue for my standard size line arrangement: Fred Astaire, "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails".
Roses are Pope John Paul II with coral bell sprigs and leaves.
My Morbana Oriental Mini arrangement for: Nancy Kwan, "I Enjoy Being a Girl" only got a second.
The roses were Baby Betsy McCall with euphorbia and the judge said they were too small, which I agreed with, but they were the only minis I could come up with that weren't chewed so...
I got one blue for my climber, Candy Land and won the fragrance class with Double Delight. As for the rest...well...there's always next year!
The people at Ray Weigand's Nursery couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. They were truly wonderful to work with. However, inside that large baking hot and dripping humid greenhouse a lot of the roses were pretty much toast even before judging got started. I had several that completely fell apart or balled up and refused to open. And all of us working the show were pretty limp too by 6 pm when we fold the show and packed up. A very long, hot, day but worth the effort, I think. We had a great turn out and sold of lot of roses too. People shopping would stop by the show and then someone would take them out to the roses and sell them one. We gave out many flyers with the club info on them as well. So we're hopeful to get a few new members. All in all a win/win situation for everyone. It was a lot of fun!
