| Louise Estes, Moonstone. I also like Peace and Chicago Peace after they get settled in for a year. Huge blooms that cut well and last. I also like one of the David Austin roses for cut flower. Abraham Darby. |
| The HP 'Paul Neyron'. |
| Veterans' Honor is a good red one that last forever both on the bush and in the vase. |
| No roses last as long in a vase as the only slightly fragrant hybrid teas like Ingrid Bergman, but there are some others good for vases like Souvenir de Georges Pernet which is both enourmous and fragrant. Peace is not far off though, but not very fragrant. |
| My double delight does very well in a vase and has a beautiful fragrance. |
| Seconding Ingrid Bergman, Veterans Honor and Double Delight. |
| Thanks! Awesome suggestions so far! I'm liking Veterans Honor... but the site I order from doesn't have any left it seems... RosesUnlimited is having a sale and I want to get a few... I was hoping for a yellow, a purple and a peach ...Are any of these good? | Ella, These are the roses I grow from your RU list that are outstanding for me. I grow, or have grown, several others on that list but these are rock solid for me in coastal central/southern Calif: Alec's Red - Artistry - Bewitched - Chicago Peace - Color Magic - Double Delight - Elizabeth Taylor - Fame - Folklore - Fred Howard - Gemini - Halloween - Helmut Schmidt - Lanvin - Liv Tyler - Perfume Delight - Snowbird - Stephen's Big Purple - Sunset Celebration - Tour. of Roses - I also grow most of the previously mentioned suggestions, and most are really good. There are tons of other really great HTs to investigate, which are wonderful either b/c of their strong fragrance and/or good vase life. I tend to prefer HTs with good substance and great fragrance. |
| Hey Ken , Love the looks of Abraham Darby.. I'm buying him =) |
| If EllaT lives in zone 7a and northward, I'd recommend against buying hybrid tea roses from Roses Unlimited or any other supplier of own-root (as opposed to grafted) roses. Although I love RU, many hybrid teas grow feebly on their own roots and will take forever to build into a good plant, if they ever do. In zones where the growing season is longer and winter damage rarely occurs, they may do OK. There are exceptions, and Naga Belle is one on the list above. It is tall and vigorous growing on its own roots. |
