Looking for something to replace Knockout roses...

Ugh...just ugh!!! Why my parents planted these is beyond me. There are so many nicer roses to choose from. I'd like to replace these roses ASAP!! The petal count is extremely low and they have ZERO FRAGRANCE. On the positive side, the Japanese beetles seem to be ignoring them (for now...). Anyways, if anyone has any roses they are dividing now or later this year please let me know (preferably something with large petal count, not a climber, and highly fragrant).

You said "if anyone has any roses they are dividing now"---roses are rarely propagated by division, especially those that are grafted to a rootstock. Some roses such as Rugosas & OGR's (old garden roses)that are on their own roots spread by suckering of their roots & these can be severed & replanted to start a new bush but it will take 3-4 years to develop into a decent size plant. Also since you live in z5, it is usually better to do spring plantng in z5 & colder. I suggest you look for some rose garden or society in your area & talk to the people grow roses near you, they will tell you what grows best in your area & who sells them so you can be prepared to plant next spring. Fragrance is big with a lot of people but rose fragrance attracts J. beetles so there is some downside to it.

Mom and Dad probably have a lot on their plate and are doing the best they can. Give them a break.

The Easy Elegance line of roses are very beautiful and hardy here for me. I have six Yellow Submarine. They are light on fragrance but pretty easy care. I have a Kiss Me that is fragrant and a medium coral pink. If you go to their website, you will be able to find nurseries in your area that carry them.

I have had good luck with some of the hardier Austin roses. I don't spray or winter protect. Buck roses are also good although many have light fragrance. Some Generosa roses are hardy in zone 5. OGRs to consider include Rose de Rescht, Jacques Cartier and Reine des Violettes. Rugosas are nonstandard but many have the clove rose fragrance. The polyantha Marie Pavie should also be considered.
