Hello. I've been reading various threads on the various roses here and thought to join and, hopefully, learn some things. My question is this: I recently bought myself a Tuscany Superb and Golden Buddha from Rogue Valley. However, I read from this forum that the Superb is a cold-weather rose, and not suitable for our 9A climate (thankfully, the Buddha is a hot-weather rose). Is there any way to help make him feel comfortable? At the moment, they're in pots, and are under shade for most of the afternoon.

OUCH, some gallicas can bloom in a zone 9 garden but Tuscany is not one of them. As with any plant that needs a certain number of cold units during the winter to reset it's internal clock most gallicas need a few months worth of sleeping time. It is the same reason why you cannot grow apple trees in Georgia and get apples. Zone 9 is a great climate for teas, chinas and other roses that either hail from warm/hot climates genetically or have been bred to enjoy them like your Golden Buddha.

Set you Garden Web account up to accept email and perhaps someone will offer you postage or a trade. Good luck. Where is your location? I'm 9a in Florida.

Don't guess I need to tell all the apple orchards in north Georgia they're really not growing apples! Sorry I couldn't resist!! We grow apples quite well here. Sorry I don't have a clue about your rose but I wish you the best of luck with it. Maybe you can find something similar that will grow in your climate! Take care!!

Paparoseman: Yeah, dash this rose grower's dreams. :P Thonotorose : 9A South Texas. And I think I got it configured now. Here's hoping!

Paparoseman has told you the truth, sorry.

*chuckles* No worries. I already cried into a pillow. :P Now, I think, the question is what can be done with it right now? *entertains thoughts of putting Tuscany in the freezer for a few weeks during the winter months* XD

Moose, try the Propagation and Exchange Forum linked above. Or maybe somebody here will email you an offer. Old Tea or China roses would be good for you.
