Japanese Beetles return

A month early! Usually I see the first of them around the 4th of July, but as with everything else in Atlanta this year, they are here early. Geez...got by soapy water cup standing by, they are loving the Calla Lilies right now. :( Anyone else dealing with them yet?

Kristi

oh no!! I haven't seen them here in Knoxville yet...but that means they're on their way. Annoying little pests!

One yesterday on Secret, 2 today in Garden Party. I am in between flushes at the moment, or else I think I'd be seeing a lot more. Everything--EVERYTHING is early this year.

I screamed bloody murder yesterday in the middle of the garden when I saw the first one. "NOOOOOOO!!!!!! NOT YET!" and luckily, the neighbors didn't call the authorities and I was not hauled away in a straight jacket.

I hate to tell you, Kristi - but I saw my first one two weeks ago. Last week, there were about a dozen and had already started eating through blooms. :(

Maybe it's warmer over in Gwinnett.;-)

They have been here two weeks as well. Not too bad this year though. (York, S.C.)

I am about 40 miles north-east of St. Louis. I saw my first one this weekend on a Rose of Sharon bloom. Luckily they haven't found my roses yet. I know it's just a matter of time until they do :(

Sorry, I have been away for a few days.:) The numbers have gone up, but I've seen much worse damage. I am in between flushes too. Hopefully they are finding something else to munch on in mass. Tom, I think I haven't been looking close enough because I just didn't expect them this early! lol

I have to wonder about a scientific papaer that refers to hybrid tea roses as "hybrid T" roses.

RE: Japanese Beetles return

Concerning the use of "Hybrid T Roses" instead of "Hybrid Tea roses". The English language is always changing.

Michael, any comment? :<)
