Gee whiz! Thrips galore...do they have any predators but me?

I don't know about their predators, charleney, but I'm wondering what specific roses of yours they have attacked. For me, it's Frederic Mistral, Memorial Day, Party Dress, and Caramel Antique. My Evelyns may be a little thrippy, too. They are all light colored, many petaled (except for Mem Day), and mostly pink. There are probably others affected where the damage is less noticeable. I just hate the little suckers. They're probably so successful in the insect world because they don't have any important predators. Diane

Yes, they do have predators and you can buy them. However, they are rather pricey.

I've been battling them here too. I've been spraying each bud almost daily and removing open blooms to get rid of them. For the most part their damage is more visible on the lighter colored roses but the dark ones are damaged too. I have found that they prefer the ones with thinner petals though. I have Strawberry Romance which is very pale but the petals are very think and the damage on that one is much less.

I've found that releasing predators is problematic. They are expensive and they won't necessarily decide to stay in your yard! I tried 3 different sprays. Earth Tone Insecticide did nothing. Spetracide did nothing. The Ortho Flower and Vegetable Insecticide is killing them. I'm out to spray again today with the hope that something will open clean for my show Saturday.

Good luck, seil. Got my fingers crossed for you. Do let us know how things turn out.

Wishing your roses the best!
