To me that looks like perfectly normal new growth.

That doesn't look like witches broom to me either. A LOT of roses have very red new growth that greens up as it matures. Those leaves do not look at all distorted.

That looks like completely normal, healthy new growth to me.

trospero, Thanks for looking. I feel better now that i know it is all right to have several stems from one place.
I am keeping close watch this year.

That red foilage will turn green when it matures...

I have a lot of new red growth on many of my bushes, but healthy leaves & lots of buds. Looks very normal to me.
