Shade for "most" of the day? Not an ideal location for modern climbers. "Bantry Bay" is classified as a large-flowered climber, while "Birthday Present" is a climbing Hybrid Tea.

Most of the large-flowered climbers require about the same sun exposure as the bush -type roses like HTs, floribundas and the like. And of course, climbing Hybrid Teas are very much like bush Hybrid Teas. Generally speaking, neither of these types are shade tolerant.

There are a few climbers - or roses that can be so trained - that will do OK in partial or dappled shade..

You might want to consider moving these to a sunnier location at the proper time.

Shade in winter does not necessarily mean shade in summer. On a north facing wall with afternoon sun, I think they have a good chance. I hope you left them there. If so how are they going?

Yeah, I agree it's worth a try; I'd think they'd mainly need sun whilst their tops are growing (i.e.,spring/summer). I don't know "Birthday Present", but Bantry Bay's flowers, though not single, are not particularly full,and therefore it may well be rather accepting of shade...bart
