Spacing around lawn?

I plan to put in a lawn in at least one area (the big one) and maybe two (the little one also). I don't want to grass so close as to mess up with the roses' nutrition uptake.

So what do you think? How close in can/should I get?

I'd probably keep the grass back about 1 foot. And I'd mulch the area under the rose--to dress it up for front-yard appearance.

The narrow area --I'd probably put in floribundas at the "feet" of the rose trees instead of grass.

Love your rose trees--so healthy and thriving and beautiful!

Would you consider plants for the narrow area? It's the perfect space for some catmint or some sort of plant that plays off the beautiful colors of roses. Maybe something white ..
Then you wouldn't have to worry about running a lawn mower in that narrow area.

Thanks...I did consider flowers but then again I will need from time to time to park on that strip and grass has a better recovery potential I think.
