Hi,

I bought some climbers, but did not know they needed to be trained to grow horizontally. they are now ~2m high and the canes are 1.5 cm thick (6 feet and 0.5 inch respectively).

What can I do now?

The best advice I can give you is to go to YouTube and search Paul Zimmermans videos on how to train climbing roses. This was my first year with climbers and someone on this forum recommended the videos and they are very informative. Good luck!

I looked at the "How To Pillar A Rose", which emphasized my question as my main canes are unflexible. I can't wrap them around the post, let alone at a 45 degree angle.

I've had success training uber-stiff canes by doing it very gradually:you tilt the cane in the direction you wish it to grow, only forcing it slightly ...got to be very careful; don't break it!.It may be possible only to tilt it very slightly at first. Tie it into place, and WAIT. A month or so later, go back and tilt it a little more ,tie it again, WAIT. It takes time and patience, but can be done. If you have no place to tie the cane, you can just tie it onto something heavy laid on the ground, using a long string...bart

I don't know, Ittay, that rose looks pretty happy and healthy go up that post!

Some roses have canes that are simply not flexible.

Those stiffer roses aren't suitable for winding around a pole, but are better used against a fence or trellis.

You might transplant this rose, next year, to a more-suitable spot, and look for something with LAX canes, for this purpose.

Even then, you will want to train the cane, gradually, as it grows, while it retains the ability to bend.
