Are most knockouts own root or grafted?

I ask because all of my knockout hedge (which I did not plant) are putting on new plants sometimes a foot from the base of the planted rose. they ARE Knockouts, not root stock. Bright red double blooms, just like my KO roses. I was under the impression that they were grafted, but looking closer at the ones I planted myself this year they are own root....so curious.

Also, do own root roses usually put on new growth down the root stystem? My other Own root roses arent doing that, but this hedge acts weird anyway...

You can get Knock Outs both ways. It just depends on what the supplier carried.

Yes, own root roses will send up shoots down the line from the roots. Just like a grafted rose will sometimes send up root stock shoots from the roots.

The ones I bought today to fill in the hedge I had to prune back do not say if they are own root or not but there is no "crown" like on a grafted rose and 4-6 canes coming out of each pot. They were also almost 2 foot tall already and half off....so I am going to have a nice start on filling in my holes.
