| Can climbing aloha or don juan be grown own root? I have not been able to find either of these grafted and know that HTs don't do well own root.

I've grown own-root Alohas for decades. It is not a big climber but it repeats well. And yes, it is rather HT-ish in growth habit and bloom.

Both are in my garden, and both of them I have grown from cuttings. They root like weeds. Good roses like these seem to root easily. Hope you can find them in a garden to take cuttings, Steve

I have DJ own root. It's been slow to take off. I think I got it from Vintage or Heirloom.

If you are in Florida or the Gulf coast and don't want to spray fungicide twice a week, I'd suggest Aloha for its better blackspot resistance. I don't know how west coast diseases affect either rose, if that's where you live.

My Don Juan: band own root last September, now about 5 ft. But the rust was terrible from Jan to June this year. The flowers looked nice for one or two days. Then they became those ugly ugly balls in dry black red under the hot sun. (I cannot stand them! ) Not really repeat well. I might try Aloha this yr. I took many notes from Michael's posts. :-) If you like Don Juan's red, probably might try "Crimson Sky". It repeats well, no diseases. The flowers are big and last two weeks in my front yard under wind and hot sun ( in May, two days' heavy rain )

Our Don Juan is old, but we have no issue with repeat. It is covered in roses. Better than any past year too
