There are many roses which aren't scented, and there are many roses offered for sale (often at "bargain prices") which are commonly mislabeled. It's also possible that the rose you bought (the top growth of a grafted rose) has died, and what you see growing now is the rootstock.

What I'd suggest is to look at rose nurseries' websites to see what's out there, read through posts on this and the Antique Roses forums for more ideas, and start making lists of possibilities. You can further research anything interesting you on HelpMeFind by entering the rose's name (link at bottom of post). If you are looking for fragrant roses, make a note of descriptions which mention this feature.

Even if you decide to buy elsewhere, Rogue Valley Roses (www.roguevalleyroses.com) and Heirloom Roses (www.heirloomroses.com) have websites which allow you to select for fragrance among the various types of roses available. This can augment your list of roses for more research. Start making a list of roses you'd want for next Spring now, and spend this time finding more about them on here and on HelpMeFind (or by simply googling the roses' names).

You got a mislabeled rose which is not uncommon for the cheap bagged roses as Christopher said. It could be just about anything that the producer had on hand when they shipped those roses out. With out pictures of it there's no way we can even attempt to ID it.

If you want roses with scent you need to deal with reputable nurseries either locally or on line and choose the one you want.

Also -- 5 ft. tall isn't at all unusual for a big Hybrid Tea Rose. And in hot weather, red roses may very well bloom pink.

Then, too, fragrance is a very individual sense. There are many "fragrant" roses I cannot smell . . . And there are a few NON-fragrant roses which I CAN smell.

Gardens can be full of surprises.
