I am pillaring a cl pinkie but obviously it isn't red :). It does have lax canes and is very easy to train around a pillar and is a very vigourous growing rose.

It depends upon your location/climate. You don't say where you are, or what zone you're in.

What works for me in Sunset Z24 might be a disaster for you.

Tell me about the area where your pillar is. Will you have to walk very close to it??? Will prickles be a problem? I'm wondering if you have access to the Tea/Noisette, 'Reve d'Or'? Or, perhaps, 'Lamarque'??? The Tea Noisettes, I think, should like your climate, and they are limber.

But if they look to be too big for you, consider a climging Miniature, such as 'Jeanne la Joie.'

If you would consider another color, I really do love both 'Lamarque' (shown above, and below) and also 'Reve d'Or.' They are Tea Noisettes, and I think should do well for you.

In ordinary years, my coastal strip of SoCal isn't warm enough to make yellow Tea Noisettes (such as 'Crepuscule') happy -- but THIS year we are breaking heat records. They like that!

Red equal Fields of the Wood. It will do well in your area. I have it pillared in the southeast USA. Not all reds are reds and not all reds will pillar - Fields of the Wood will. It is AKA Kocher Red or Rhode Island Red. Great rose.
