Sea Foam Groundcover?

Just purchased three from my local nursery this morning. Can anyone share their experiences with this healthy looking rose? Is it truly a groundcover? Resembles 'White Dawn' in growth habit to me.

Not a groundcover at all. Here, it's a six by six shrub, with a strong family resemblance to the New Dawn clan. Somewhat susceptible to cercospora, but resistant to blackspot.

RE: Sea Foam Groundcover?

Sea Foam was the first rose I ever grew, here in Philadelphia (was 6b, now 7a). I loved that rose, it is what got me interested in starting to grow more roses, actually. I missed it so much after I moved. It was not a ground cover here, either, but a wonderful, large shrub. I think I would estimate about five or six foot square or round about, too.

I loved that rose. It was very prolific and seemed to have a good repeat, though I am new to roses and what is good repeat to me may not be to a seasoned rose grower. I never remember it not being in bloom, really. It seemed quite healthy here for me, and I did nothing but let it grow (from a tiny sprite of a thing bought by my dad off the "emergency room" sale rack at a big box store) and admire it. :)

When it was in full bloom it never failed to attract great positive attention from the neighbors, who thought it was beautiful gracing the bank of the steep slope of our small front yard. It was a very happy bush and even though it is not a classic hybrid tea that sends out big showy blooms, it bloomed it's heart out in tons of clusters and was a beautiful white sometimes shaded with blushes of pink. Loved it.

It did shoot some long canes that probably could have been trained to fall down the bank. Unfortunately the last mow and blow guy at my last apartment would run them over with the mower when they arched down, so I never really got to experiment with that. Jerk!

I would love to have it again but don't know that I would have a place for it here, knowing it's size. I do have an area where I might be able to train it along a wall above it, but it would mean removing an array of plants already there so I have not purchased a new one. I've almost ordered it many times and forced myself not to buy it when I was standing in front of it at a local nursery last year at the end of the season, not knowing where I could put it. That was so hard, walking away!

Other than that I would not hesitate to grow it again.
