Are there any rose publications that extensively list and illustrate the different classes of roses separately? For example all the "Bourbons" together, all the "Chinas" together, etc. I have a couple of books that I like, The Ultimate Book of Roses and the ARS Encyclopedia of Roses, but these are alphabetical and do not categorize the roses by class and I have had them long enough that they need updated anyway. I have smaller publications and they are helpful, but I would like something more complete. Help Me Find is a great source, but when you search by class there is too much to go through and there are times when I prefer looking through a book, instead of on a website.

As far as I know HMF is the only one you can do by just class. Some of the nursery sites list by class too but only what they carry, not all of them. All the books I've seen are alphabetical. Try adding in some parameters to your HMF search like only ones that are commercially available. That might cut down on the number for you.

The Graham Stuart Thomas Rose Book is arranged by class.

Look for "Classic Roses" by Peter Beales. And while it's technically a catalog, the Vintage Gardens collection is organized similarly in their book. A third, which I don't have but is on my list to buy, is "The Rose" by David Austin. :-) ~Christopher

| Run do not walk to "www.vintagegardens.com". This is the site of the no longer active Vintage Gardens nursery. Just click on "roses", and you will see a list of classes. Click on any class, and you will see a list of roses (probably saying "no longer available", as the nursery is closed). Most of the roses have pictures. This website is still operating as of today, but may be gone soon - I understand that the non-profit which has rescued the collection plans on having their own web site, but I don't know if all of the rose info is on it yet. Thus, the recommendation to look at it immediately. VG sells (which they may still be doing right now) a fabulous catalogue of roses, "Vintage Gardens Complete Catalogue of Antique and Extraordinary Roses". It is arranged by class, and includes many older hybrid teas and other "modern" roses as well as antiques. Jackie
