Doesn't look like you have much mulch in your bed. I'd suggest a 2"-3" organic mulch over the whole bed.

Also, did you only add organic amendments to the planting hole (bad idea), or did you oincorporate organics over the whole bed (best idea). if you did the first, the roots will often stay within the "improved zone" and that inhibits growth..

The red top growth indicates that it is growing. Looks OK for age six weeks--transplanting often disturbs the root system for a while. Give 3-4 gallons of water per week if it is not raining. Mulch as Nicki suggests. You can fertilize again in 4-6 weeks.

To plant, we just dug a hole and stuck it in!

Not to worry. The rose in that picture looks very healthy. It's just getting settled and building it's root ball. When it feels it has enough roots to support more top growth it will take off. You don't list a zone but KOs are very tough and hardy so even it it's small it should winter well for you. Enjoy!

I'm in St. Clair Shores on the lake north of Detroit and I'm in zone 6. If you are anywhere in the Detroit area you are too. If you're farther west of suburban Detroit you may drop into zone 5. Either way KOs will be very hardy for you.
