I did alittle experiment today... I placed 3 rose slugs approx. 10 inches away from a Mister Lincoln rose bush and all 3 rose slugs found their way back to the rose bush within 1 hour... So they can and do crawl back on the bush. So all RS pickers out their probably be better to kill them after picking them off the bush or placed very far away from your roses...

Yes, I have seen that. I would put on a nitrile glove and squish. You might want to try a preying mantis egg case if they survive the winter in your climate. Since the mantis moved into my garden, my rose slug damage has dropped by about 95%.

Thank you Jim! I love experiments like that. Rose slugs were so bad one year that I resorted to systemic. Within the week they were tiny black skeletons. I'd love to have praying mantis. I wonder if they'd eat the caterpillars off the delphiniums? They're relentless.

hoovb, years ago we had praying mantis but I haven't seen any for awhile.

Squishing is simple, satisfying, and final. :-)

I ordered praying mantis pods this spring when I ordered aphids. Let me tell you, there is not much more interesting than watching 800 teeny tiny itty bitty praying mantis come out of a pod. Then you just shake them around the garden! Susan

Cool poorbutroserich on the praying mantis! You ordered aphids?
