| Hello, All
I am moving from San Francisco to northern Sonoma County (hot!) The only rose I want to take with me is my Claire Renaissance which I love dearly. However, this sweetie develops black spot early in the season. I have cut off the offending leaves and did a light pruning, sprayed with Neem oil and the second growth of leaves look pretty healthy. We are moving in a month or so and I will prune the rose before I uproot it. My question:

| This is the almost worst rose in my garden (the worst is Phillippa Renaissance). Philippa is totally naked with crusty pom-poms of nastiness and Claire, aka Liliana is almost defoliated too. Anyhow, you are a million miles from me and roses will perform according to soil, climate and treatment. You could remove affected leaves before a move (not a bad idea as it leavens the pressure on transpiration but certainly, what will remain with your rose is the propensity to attract local blackspot spores. It may improve, even, if Claire carries a smidgeon of resistance to the strains of BS where you are moving. Same with your other roses - if they are clean now, there is a good chance they will remain so but moving to anywhere which is different is always an exciting, if risky time. Despite my less than glowing reference to Claire, good luck with the move. Lots of water, good preparation and the biggest rootball you can maintain intact will give you the best chance of success. You might also take a look at adding mycchorhizal granules to the planting hole(Rootgrow is a UK brand) - this can help in establishing a rose by operating in partnership with the existing root system, increasing surface area for fast nutrition and water movement |
