| Yes. You can root rose cuttings. Do a GOOGLE search on "ROOTING ROSE CUTTINGS." HOWEVER -- 'Midas Touch,' introduced in 1994, is still in patent. You should not root this rose, as doing so cheats the people whose work and research produced it. There are many MANY older roses, long out of patent, or never patented, which can legally be reproduced in this manner. The link below will take you to a site at which you can check the date of introduction of any rose. If it has been in commerce for 20 years or more, it is legal to root cuttings from it. Jeri |

| Azzure, every rose you have ever grown or seen (unless you grow seedlings or have been shown seedling roses) is a clone. Your Midas Touch is a clone of the original seedling Midas Touch, as are every other bush of Midas Touch which has ever been grown. Cloning is possible through a variety of different methods; rooting, layering, budding and grafting as well as tissue culture. Which method to use depends upon many factors, including your skill level, patience, climate, time of year, material available. But, as Jeri pointed out, Midas Touch is patented. Someone owns the rights to the variety and is due a royalty for every plant produced of it. If you require that specific variety, your best bet to remain legal and ethical is to buy a commercial plant of it (if one can be found), or plant your plant of it where you wish it to grow. Using the link Jeri provided above, you can click on the "Buy From" link on the rose page and find out from whom a plant can be purchased. Don't worry...it WILL be the plant she grew and loved. Every plant produced from a seedling is part of the same plant. If you hold a bloom of a rose Empress Josephine grew and knew, you ARE holding a bloom of the same rose, smelling the same scent and enjoying the same beauty. Kim |

I have always admired roses since I was little but this is my first year growing one and having a garden. It has thrived I just wanted a little piece of me their with her because of everything she went through before dying.but I am ethical and will just buy the plant. |

| It looks lovely and healthy. :-) And, you know, by planting a rose for her grave, you are following an old and sweet tradition. Many of the old and rare roses we have today are available to us because someone planted them on the grave of someone they loved. A century later, we can take a cutting from one of those roses, and grow healthy new plants for today's gardens. I will hope that your Great-Aunt's rose is still growing well a century from now. | Jeri, if I'm not mistaken, it's only illegal to propagate patented varieties if you intend to SELL them. She's not selling anything. |

| jeri I never knew that but thank you for the information. they say I can buy seeds but I think I am just going to go get a plant. |

| Rich -- You are incorrect. asexual propagation of a patented rose is illegal -- irregardless of what you intend to do with the plants you produce. It's not like the Breeders Of Heavenly Roses get all that much per plant, butwe don't steal the small amount they do get. Azure -- seeds won't help you. Hybridized roses do not breed true. Jeri |
