A member here sent me a rose, but I think it cooked during shipping. Everything was still moist, but it has a steamed veggie smell... is there anyway I can save it? I have it soaking right now in some superthrive mixture, but what else can I do?

is this a plant or a cutting or rooted cutting or what? Stick it in full but bright shade and keep it moist (don't drown it), but don't "kill it with kindness", either. Wait and see what happens, there really isn't much else you can do. This is why some rose vendors do not ship in summer time.

How does the foliage look, and how well-rooted is the plant? Since everything was still moist, I wouldn't recommend that you soak for very long. Keep it indoors overnight and then in a well-shaded location for several days, increasing the amount of sunlight only gradually. Even if it drops leaves, don't give up on it right away. Keep it moist (not wet) and don't fertilize until your satisfied that it has recovered. I think your chances of success are pretty good.

They should ship only if temps are in 80s or less perferably. Ship on a Monday and then use Priority Mail or orther fast service. I sent 8 roses by Priority mail to Florida from Indiana Monday and they arrived Wednesday. I was told they were in good shape except for a little cane breakage as I don't cut back if I can avoid it. Like stated above, they should be OK. Even if cooked it was just the leaves and they'll grow back. |

Thank you for all of the advise. I should have mentioned that it is a very nice rooted cutting. And I would love to save it, but the stems also look cooked... One still has the top 3 or so inches a vibrant green. So maybe there's a chance for her to survive. It's very important for me to save it, because it was a gift, and I really appreciate her sending me such a beautiful plant.
