Hoping for advice about a good climber/rambler that doesn't require a lot of care. Sadly, my Mom passed away recently and I would like something for her gravesite. The cemetery will allow a small support. My only climber is a John Davis and that one is plagued by pm if not addressed on a regular basis.Any recommendations are appreciated.

Take a look at Ramblin' Red, cane hardy without winter protection in my z4 area, repeats well & great disease resistance, hybridized by the guy that gave us Knock Out.

GROW VIKING QUEEN!!! it is sooo BS resistant (I am all-organics and in the BS Black Zone); this rose requires no care and is a continual and prolific bloomer. It is also rabbit resistant because it has enough protective thorns to the plant. It drapes beautifully too, and is mannerly so far. You can either let it grow wide or train it vertically/upwards to save on space. (I've seen Florence's beautiful VQ done this way). Viking Queen's canes stay green all winter long too.... I got mine from Long Ago Roses. The foliage is very beautiful, shiny like mirrors. Many condolences about your mother.....But your mother will smile because it is a very fragrant rose and so beautiful in bloom form, and I can't think of any other rose that "has it all" the way Viking Queen is.... Unfortunately, my garden is very clumsy so you aren't going to see it in its prime the way you'll see Florence's/Zeffyrose. Here's a link that I also shared with my friends in Europe concerning how beautiful this rose really is. And here is mine, a far cry from hers, but my friends in Europe still like VQ the best out of all my roses.

Thank you both so much! Both choices fit the bill exactly and both receive rave reviews from those who grow them. As it turns out, Heirloom has Vikinq Queen in stock and I just so happen to have a gift certificate from them burning a hole in my pocket! Thank you again for the recommendations!

Bless to you, and may your Viking Queen bring gorgeous beauty to your dear mother's resting place! And you can also add a wonderful fragrant bouquet to bring home with you each time you visit too! Please keep us updated! I know that Boxofrox has a wonderful Memory Garden, and may your Mother's site be every bit as beautiful too!

Very sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. My sincere condolences. Regarding a suitable rose, what kind of mature size would be deemed acceptable? Many of the Explorer and hardy climbers can become very large over time and may cause issues down the road. Whereas a hardy and large shrub rose may not.

Morden Man, I was told up to a six foot trellis would be fine and as you know, those of us in the colder zones have our growth dictated by our winters. I can always cut back if needed. Thanks!

I have had good success with Nahema. I do not spray or winter protect. It has beautiful, fragrant blooms.
Here is a link that might be useful: Nahema
