Roses are like vegetables?

Thinking about roses, I realize that they are the only flower I know of that we can treat almost like a crop--

We will grow them in special beds all on their own, put them in contests, "harvest" them to enjoy the blooms and give to our friends and families like we give out our extra tomatoes. I have also heard roses described as miniature fruit trees, and that our rose gardens are almost like little orchards. And of course roses are related to fruiting plants like stone fruits, apples, even berries.

Anyone else ever made this connection?
