| Right now, today, what is your best looking rose? Push yourself back from the computer, go out there, look carefully, and see!
I was quite surprised to decide that in my garden today, 'Trumpeter' was covered with flowers, had clean foliage, and looked just wonderful. It's a small plant jammed between big beautiful 'Top Notch' and big beautiful 'Molineux #2', and so I often overlook 'Trumpeter'. Seeing it look so good was a nice surprise. The more I look at my garden, the less I think I really see. So what's your prettiest rose TODAY? :) |

| Molineux is my prettiest of the day, before coming inside and reading this post I was admiring it's many blossoms and healthy foliage. The flowers opening today are an unusually true yellow, most of the time I get apricot or cream colored blooms from my 'Molly' ;o) Interesting topic, I can't wait to see the other #1's! |

| The new Princess Alexandra of Kent - She starts off like a softly bi-colored hybrid tea with ruffly petals and ends up with that wonderful English rose quartered center in a deep raspberry. I'll have to take pictures. This has been the best all-round bloom I have ever had - all 175 rose bushes are just full of bloom. I have to breathe in a paper bag so don't hyperventilate |

| My Spartan is beautiful today. It is in one of its predictable bloom cycles and the foliage is healthy, healthy, healthy. |

| Yesterday it was NEPTUNE ;) but today I am realllly delighted with DOUBLE DELIGHT!! |

| My prettiest is Hot Cocoa. It just started a new flush and is covered. |
| That is such an incredibly hard question. Everything is in bloom, they are all proudly struttin their stuff looking marvelous, and each and every one is so beautiful. I just bought Dream Come True last week full of buds, and the buds are now blooming. I've never seen anything like this. I think it may have to win for today. |

| Like that question hoovb! Would be fun to answer it every once in a while. In my garden the most beautiful rose today is 'The Ingenious Mr. Fairchild', hands down! Beautiful, peony-like, soft pink flowers, very strong citrus fragrance, very clean foliage. What else can you ask for! Christina |

| At this time it is Young Lycidas, with it's blooms of magical magenta, leaning towards fairytale purple. Golden Celebration is a close second. Juliet |
| You'd have to ask the Thrips that question. They've gotten almost every bloom since spring. I did have one bloom on a new miniature I bought this year that lasted long enough for me to see it - Deja Blu - it was really pretty. Like a miniature Paradise....Maryl |

| hmmm, that would have to be Escapade, which is blooming full and has lovely almost single lavender blooms waving like an umbrella over the top of the plant. Or maybe my little Chick-A-Dee short standard mini tree, which is in full bloom also now. She's such a sweet little rose. |
| It's crazy hot outside, but some things are still blooming. I'd say the best looking flowers belong to either Veteran's Honor, Cherry Parfait or Abraham Darby (who is getting some very light shade). Pretty much everything else is fried. :( |

| George burns as a complete bush. But for just a single flower it has to be veterans honor. Its new for me this year & is a small & weak plant (it was dumped & I got it for free) but its had a few spectacular deep red blooms the last few days. Just beautiful! |

| Today it is Sunstruck with Dark Night pushing it REAL hard. Both of these get afternoon shade so I don't have any faded or cooked blooms. Later this week it will probably be Gemini. It is ready to go nuts. |

| Stephens Big Purple. That rose bush is amazing. Beautiful purple 5" blooms - about 6 on the bush now. The scent is wonderful. Pushing close is Betty White. I just love that rose. I was surprised that Kay said Betty White, because I never hear of it on here. Fragrance is lovely, it has a gazillion petals and is a lovely soft pink. Carol :) |
| Flight 93 today is my most beautiful rose. It's a hybrid tea named for the heroes of Flight 93 on 9/11, an offspring of Mister Lincoln and Crysler Imperial, super clean foilage, lushous big blooms of deepest red, and vigorous as heck for a new own root. An all around excellent hybrid tea rose! (Now, I only hope I can overwinter it in my shed ok, which I haven't had the best luck with yet).. I will take pictures tomorrow after work :) |

| My St Patricks loves the heat and has over 30 blooms and they are GREEN. REALLY GREEN. Like I said it likes the heat. |

| Fun to hear about all the different roses creating beauty this fine day. Many mentioned are good performers for me as well, and some will be new temptations. Uh-oh! :) |

| Christopher Marlowe closely followed by Elina. Both have been blooming their little hearts out in our triple didget temps. We also have been in drought until last week, but it didn't bother them. Everything else has much smaller blooms or is not blooming at all. I almost didn't buy CM because I haven't had much luck with Austins, but I'm so glad I did. He no sooner finishes one flush, and he's at it again. |

| Octoberfest. The blooms were on the small side, but the clarity of the color without the thrips--BEAUTIFUL! |
| I just went out in the blazing heat to check out the winner, and to my surprise is was the delicate pale pink and ruffly tea rose, Cels Multiflora. It looks as though it would wilt if you frowned at it, but instead it has almost a dozen lovely open blooms. Honorable runners-up are Le Vesuve and Sister Elizabeth. Ingrid |
| Ingrid, please tell me more about your experience with her. Is the lovely Sister fragrant, or not so much? Kay |

| Looking good, kentstar! |

| "Grandmother's Hat." The hedge on the East side of the house is coming into a third flush of bloom, despite the current heatwave. Jeri, in Coastal Ventura Co., SoCal |
| onederw, Sister Elizabeth does indeed have a lovely fragrance. I'm terrible at describing fragrance, but can say that it's not myrrh, but rather what to me is more of an old rose fragrance. It fact, I would say that it smells very much the same as it looks, romantic and charming. Ingrid |
| Nicole! |
| I'd have to say the single most consistent, ever-blooming rose that doesn't shrink in the heat, laughs at BS and just keeps on adding canes is ... Liebeszauber. I have several others, but ... |

| Is it cheating to come back on another day and post another today's favorite?! Couldn't help myself - Ingrid Bergman is beyond breathtaking today, 100+ degree heat and all. I can even live with her lack of fragrance, because hands down of my 6 reds, she is the prettiest. |

| My vote goes to Molineux. Like the above posters, I find Molineux blooms better in heat (over 100degrees the past two weeks) than most of my other roses. This pic of Molineux gives a sense of how well it is blooming, but I suppose I should have done a bit of deadheading on it before taking its pic--but that just shows how steadily Molineux has been putting out the blooms. By the way, in real life, the color is a bit more "delicate" (faded to lovely shade of creamy apricot with a touch of pale yellow) than the camera shows. After reading about how well your Elinas are doing, I must say I'm really disappointed in mine. Usually such willing bloomers--and BIG blooms. All absolute runts in this unending heat wave. Kate |

| Nothing looking too good right now. I will say Fame has a lot of blooms, but they are old and faded. The flowers stay on that bush quite a while. |
| Distant Drums (Breath of Spring and Summer Fashion each have a single bloom). That's about it right now (but some slacker hasn't deadheaded...). |
First bloom I've seen on this particular new purchase from Eurodesert. The hybrid perpetual Francois Premier! And was it ever worth the wait. I went to Eurodesert at the beginning of May with the idea to select some hybrid perpetuals to buy and this rose was on my wantlist. It was covered in buds, but I didn't get to see a live bloom on the bush. The next weekend I came to pick it up, and I myself severely pruned it and cut off all those lovely buds. Now it is covered in leaves and buds and today it graced me with the first open flower. It also has TERRIFIC FRAGRANCE. Plus not a speck of rust or blackspot (and I don't spray).
| Second or third day of 90+ temps. My roses look like Salvador Dali works, melted! |
| Is it cheating to come back on another day and post another today's favorite?! No, because it's a different day! :) |
| This is my prettiest rose, and my ONLY rose, so far! But this seems about normal for this bush. It always opens about this same time every year. Can anyone tell me what it's called? Thanks! |

| Othello is my best performer for the moment. Lots of plump globes ready to bloom and some 3" cup-shaped red blooms. He seems to take the heat pretty well, though it has cooled some in GA recently and we have had some rain. He also has some promising new shoots coming up as well. This is a large vigorous thorny plant and I have him in the wrong place. I hate thinking of moving him since he seems so happy where he is. |

| Where the heck in GA are you that it has cooled with Rain no less? LOL We are still at or around 100 and only showers that have been hit or miss. Today, currently, we are boasting a 91 actual temp with heat indexes of 100. it is only noon however. LOL |

| Particentral, I am in Atlanta. It has been in the high 80's and we have had thunderstorms. I actually had to start spraying again for blackspot. My mom lives in south Georgia and they are in drought. Princess Diana looks like a nice rose ... |

| For the past week my most beautiful rose has been my new South Africa from Palatine. The same 5 flowers have gone form glorious buds to glorious full blooms that are still on the bush, aging well. The color is hard to describe but utterly wonderful...a soft gold with the barest traces of baby pink in it, otherwise all the shades of warm sun and golden evenings. It makes me hungry just to look at it! The scent is gentle, but present, the foliage is beautiful in my no spray garden, and I just can't get enough of it! Will post photo when I have time to run it through photobucket. |
| Ha ha, you're asking what's blooming? Not a darned thing in our hot weather, but I did check on my 40 plus old roses and can't believe there are some blooms on Alfred de Carriere, not many mind you, and I am shocked - it's just too darned hot for anything to be blooming now. (This is when I wouldn't mind living up north for the summer!) |
Here us my "South Africa" as mentioned a few letters earlier. It had beautiful buds and now about a week later it is still beautiful! Hope the photo shows the wonderful shades of soft gold. |

| Yeah, I am in Albany and until yesterday had only a sprinkling of rain for months. THEN we got two or three hours yesterday! Then I get home....dry, dusty road and not a sign of anything but 97 degree temps! I live a half hour from work. Sigh.....we are expecting rain today and possibly tomorrow so I am EXCITED! |
| Today's best rose has got to be Gemini. Absolutely nothing stops it from blooming and the flowers don't shrink (much) in the heat. |

| Two bushes of Le Vesuve are blooming up a storm and look quite lovely. Ingrid |

| Juliet, I got my SOUTH AFRICA from Palatine Roses. It's a 2006 Kordes rose and they say it is a Grandiflora. In its first year here it is probably only 3' tall but it is just getting established. It makes big buds and 4-5" flowers when open. It is blooming with about 6 flowers at a time on this wonderful healthy and abundant foliage. I am really thrilled with this rose! It also came through a horrible winter that killed many of my other older, established, roses with no problems at all. |
| jimminy, what a lovely found rose. Wish I could fiind "gems" like that just sitting around my property. All I found when I moved here was Dr. Huey. :( Yours really is a lovely rose. Kate |
| Mine are Winter Sunset and Traviata, Crocus Rose is just starting it's second flush so next week my choice may change. Fragrant Cloud is doing well, I'm just not thrilled by the color but it's otherwise a great shrub. |

| Last week it was Golden Fairytale and Lavender Lassie(s). However, this week, I think Eliza, Grimm Brothers Fairytake and Grande Amore have to get the nod. Pretty sure next week the nod will go to Peace and the 2nd flush of my Henry Hudson tree rose. What can I say...picking just one is next to impossible. |
| OK--I'm hoping that in the next day or two I will post a new "prettiest" rose in my garden. Mystic Beauty was planted in May and hasn't really done much of anything--finally some new growth the past week, and today there is a bud with a delicate pastel pink color. I'm so excited and hope I'll be posting it tomorrow as my prettiest. Not only is Mystic Beauty my newest rose, but it is also my first Bourbon rose. This is exciting--errr, I think I already said that, didn't I! : ) Kate |
| My prettiest bloom for today is KORBASTA:
Betty, I see no one has offered a guess on you lovely pink rose. I would bet it's COLOR MAGIC. |

| It seems like most of us have garden beauties to celebrate. Something to be thankful for in these days of not-so-good news. |

| Here she is--TODAY's prettiest rose: Mystic Beauty. This is the first bloom on my newest rose--so exciting--and isn't she a delicate beauty! Bourban rose, for those of you who keep track of those things. Kate |
| Oops--can't spell "Bourbon." : ) Beth, I meant to add that I really like Korbasta. How much pink flush does it get? The coloring reminds me just a bit of the coloring on the Peace rose--which I can't grow in my garden. Kate |

| Baby Faraux has some pretty little blooms waaaaaay at the bottom of the plant. And Floral Fairy Tale, which has no blooms, also has no blackspot, and neither does Caramel Fairy Tale. |

| oooooooooh, seil--which is more gorgeous? the rose or the photo? Kate |

| Korbasta!!!!! YUM! |

| As a bush, Antique '89. This rose ws a sleeper for the first 3 years. But this year, it has given a breath taking display that has out lasted all of the other climbers. For individual blooms, it has to be Gemini. My bush has perfect foliage, and perfect symmetrical, high center HT form. Too bad our local rose show was 3 weekends ago! |
| Thanks, Kate! It's definitely the rose! But I've been experimenting with getting the reds right and I think I've found a setting on my camera that works most of the time. Susan, never heard of Korbasta before but it's lovely! Lol, Joe, I know how you feel! Where was that VH bloom when I had my shows! |

| I would have to say Maman Cochet |
| Today and for weeks it's been Souvenir de la Malmaison which never really stopped blooming even during (our mild) winter this year. The bush is constantly in bloom and has no disease. I have two bushes and the younger one has a cane with about fifty buds on it. This one doesn't get morning sun and does have some mildew. |
| Today is too soon, but if I asked this question every day of the blooming season, the most common answers by far would be 'Earth Song,' 'Clair Matin,' and 'Carefree Sunshine,' because these are my best bloomers and bear the flowers on fine, big, leafy, healthy plants. Hey hoovb, I enjoyed your picture of 'Brass Band,' which I haven't thought of in years. It's a nice bushy plant with flowers to the ground, somewhat resistant to black spot. But in my climate it is extraordinarily susceptible to canker. Does yours have that shortcoming? |
- Posted by ken-n.ga.mts 7b/7a (My Page) on Sat, Apr 7, 12 at 16:54
| "Zeffy" is really starting to go crazy. Very impressed with this rose. |
| michaelg, I went out and looked at BB, and not a bit of Canker anywhere. Maybe it's the afternoon sun baking it daily, keeping it nice and dry. ken-n.ga.mts, Zeffy was a failure here, but in the right climate she's perfect...sounds like you have it. I want me 'Mystic Beauty'! |
| hoovb, 'Mystic Beauty' is fantastic here. Lots of big, fragrant, perfect flowers on a compact bush with beautiful dark blue-green foliage. I don't know if it would have mildew problems where you are--no problem here, but we have very little mildew. |
| Angel Pernet, but all my pernetianas are having a good spring--I think because it's been warm since March, but not yet hot, so for once I get a sense of what spring must be where the spring is long. |

| For Betty, or b2allicia (z5a Colorado): The picture you posted and asked if anyone can indentify your rose - my guess is Paul Shirville. I'm in zone 5a and looked up on hardiness, and Paul Shirville is the closest match. He's listed in Encyclopedia of Roses as hardy to zone 5. If your rose is fragrant, it's a good bet. I second "Christopher Marlow" as the prettiest rose, and the prettiest bush, 100% healthy, and best of all - no animals eat him. Radio Times and Mary Magdalene are also in the pretty-gang, healthy, and NOT eaten. I love Austins and want to get more of the above mentioned: Princess Al. of Kent, Young Lycidas and Perdita. |
| Now, TODAY the prettiest rose was 'Bridesmaid,' a 1902 Tea Rose. :-) Jeri |
