mislabeled rose from Lowe's

When I saw a half-price, somewhat neglected rose labeled Chrysler Imperial at Lowe's, I bought it b/c I had fond memories of the variety from years ago. Today the plant's flower bud opened: no scent and not a deep, true red but more like a pink-red. Likely mislabeled.. bummer! I wonder if this happens a lot at the box stores. ??

I've seen a number of flowers mislabled in Lowes. I've also bought an expensive shrub from a reputable local nursery that was mislabled.

OR ... It could be that your rose opened blooms in our recent heatwave.

In my own garden, Also Coastal SoCal, I have seen blooms which normally open deep cerise, bloom, instead, in a soft pink. Subsequent blooms, as temps diminished, returned to normal color.

Give your rose a little time, and see what it does.

The color sounds right for CI to me and the fact that there was no scent could be because of the weather like Jeri said. I wouldn't decide it's a mislabel just yet.

The classic dark crimson HTs produce different shades of red in different weathers.

OK. I'll follow your recommendations and give it more time. Thanks.

I was at Lowes checking out what was left of the roses. They had several that were red and white combination labeled as Mr. Lincoln.

The problem happens everywhere. I bought a Lady Banks Yellow at an organic-minded store; the shrub actually was the white version of Lady Banks. Meanwhile, at Lowe's, I bought a mophead hydrangea (Nikko Blue) that turned out to be lacecap. Brother...

Once this happens to you, you start to buy some plants only when they are blooming!

The Blue Moon I bought this spring at a big box, I forgot which one, is some sort of a generic lavender HT, but I am pretty sure not BM.
