Darlow Enigma in the ground

Well it started out a twig. I planted it in a 5 gallon pot. I have been ignoring it for about 3 years. It's home is at the back of my property in the shade. Lots of pine needles and lousy soil. So I had my husband dig a deep hole. Then we sunk an old 20 gallon plastic pot with the bottom out of it in the ground. I used a good mix of soil with compost and manure and moved the rose into the ground. I feel like this will give the roots what they need. My Bleu Magenta is planted well like this..a year now and doing okay. Both these roses are in the back lot. I will see how they do.

You didn't need to sink that pot into the ground actually. Just dig a hole and dump in some compost or kitchen scraps or yard clippings. Darlow's Enigma is really hardy and vigorous - it's kind of a reversion to a "wilder" rose and it can fend for itself really well if it gets enough sun. I had mine in horrible dirt and it just got way too massive so I had to get rid of it.

Nice rose tho!
