Definitely Living Easy! Some folks may like Westerland but I have owned both and Westerland was a little wimpy for me. Living Easy is very disease resistant, shiny green leaves, beautiful blooms. Both have some fragrance. Westerland might be a little stronger smelling. The blooms last longer for LE as well. Westerland has fewer petals. I liked Living Easy so much that I also got Easy Going which is currently my second favorite yellow after Julia Child. Good Luck. CJ

Westerland defoliates for me. It hasn't taken off in 2 years. Living Easy was a total disaster for me and is gone.

I'm not sure that cjrosaphile's conditions are comparable to ours. Perhaps cj is referring to experience growing these roses in the southeast? I'm not sure.

Westerland is not wimpy here. It is hardy and vigorous, reaching 10' by year 3. It produces many blooms which fade to a lovely salmon/yellow blend. Disease resistance is better than my HT's and Austins.

Similar to Robert, my Westerland defoliates. Livin Easy was complete BS disaster here. I think claims that these two roses are resistant come from different climates, where BS strains are different or BS pressure is less.

Thanks for the east coast experience. My Living Easys were gorgeous last year, their first year, but we were in a drought and I kept them well irrigated, just like they do in S. California. I'm convinced that S. California rose growers are from Venus and we East Coast growers are from Mars. This year has been wet and they are looking straggly. Is there a good peachy colored shrub rose for the East Coast?

Both roses are apparently resistant to some strains of blackspot but not to others.

A peachy and very beautiful rose that has been resistant for me so far (second year) is 'Papi Delbard.' It is a short climber or large shrub (as is Westerland) but with milder colors. A former poster here kept it no-spray in eastern NC. However, I've learned not to be confident that any repeat-blooming rose will stay resistant in my garden.
