Candelabra question

This summer, I have been noticing an unusually large number of my hybrid teas growing these very tall candelabras. I'm trying to figure out what caused them to form and so far the only thing I can come up with is the use of fertilizer.

In early spring I fertilized them with miracle gro. If anyone isn't familar with miracle gro, they all come with a small measuring spoon with a bowl on each side. One smaller side is for indoor houseplants, and the larger side is for outdoog plants; the larger size is what I used... I thought I was doing a good thing because I have always been kind of lax when it comes to fertilzer..

Don't get me wrong, the candelabras are pretty, but I do like to cut alot of my roses and keep them in the house, and when they are candelabras, the buds never seem to open at the same time. Plus, they are very prone to breakage from heavy winds. So, am I right, was it the fertilizer that did it??
