Maria Stern is a beautiful rose in my garden.

Yes she is, she gave me some beautiful blooms at first. I'm not sure what happened. She just started dying, branches were going black and any new growth would go limp :/

Dumping that soil and washing out the pot before I repot the new one. I'm worried whatever hurt MS might have be in the soil.

'Gold Medal' makes a nice cut flower. On the plant it fades quite a bit. It gets very tall.

These two are fairly equivalent in performance in my gardens. Maria Stern is sold as a hardy rose, but the only garden I have had success with it in is a bed protected from winds, where it grows at least 6' tall, and is very productive. Everywhere else it has been a shrimp.

Gold Medal does make a nice cut flower as stated above. Like many yellows, it is not very hardy. In your Zone, it would likely be wonderful; it has high-centered blooms and is somewhat of a bicolor rose. Its flowers are just as beautiful as Maria Stern. It is a grandiflora.

I have a hedge of 6 Gold Medals and I love 'em. They were planted earlier this year in May and they have grown about a foot taller and have produced blooms non-stop.

The only cons are chili thrips love 'em and the blooms fade to a brownish white, sometimes with a tinge of green.

My Maria Stern gave me a ton of variants of itself. Sometimes bi-colored, sometimes pink, sometimes orange. I never knew what I would get when I woke up!

When I picked up Gold Medal it had a few buds on it I let it keep. The first one bloomed yesterday, and it was gorgeous! THankfully it Faded little when I picked it today. And I LOVE how it looks next to Intrigue and Red Sensation. Not quite sure who has the better scent between GM and Intrigue though.
