Washing Machines and Roses Question

Hi Everyone,
I have a question, I see how everyone was talking about converting and using their washing machines for watering their roses, and I was wondering if anyone doing this had seen any problems from doing it? I asked my husband about doing this and he said he thought that the soap from the washing powders would cause the ground to dry out, has anyone experienced these problems? Thanks!

Depends on the soap and how much you are using in each load. I tend to soak my stuff in a bucket in Fragrance free All or Tide and that water goes down the toilet. Then I just wash with plain water or a little eco safe soap. I didn't notice any harm yet. I would always put bleach water down the shower or toilet drain.

As kitty says, what detergent you use, but also if you get regular rain in your area (unlike here), the rain is going to help disperse the detergent in the soil.

You might also distribute the water all through the garden, rather than putting it on the same spot every time.

OK thanks kitty and hoovb, I use a cheap washing powder, sun plus oxi cleaner(5.95 at walmart for big bottle of liquid), I did figure when I bleached that would have to go to septic, and I was going to distribute it through the garden, so all the roses got some, I think we kinda get good rainfall, july was our only bad month, we got none during the begining but if I remember right we got some pretty good rain the last week.Lately we've been getting good rain it rained good for like three days straight(like it rained all night or all day) like three days ago. nice steady soaking rain.I loved it had been awhile since it rained like that. :)

If I had regular rain, I wouldn't even consider doing this.

I probably will have to do it one day, but here, we get NO rain 9 months of the year.

Well we have had such hot temperatures lately I still have to water some and I was only gonna use it when during those times when we didn't receive enough rain, to save money on the water bill, thought it would be a good idea as long as the sun on soap didn't cause the ground to dry out, like my husband said he thought it might do, plus I have a bunch of new bands coming in next spring and I thought someone said they used them( laundry water) on new roses as well and they seemed to like it and I thought since newly planted bands need to be kept watered more than established roses, I thought t would be a easier and inexpensive way to keep my roses happy :) all comments, experience and advice welcome please :) Thanks to everyone who has given advice!
