Black stems, dead rose

I bought a Ballerina last month that was bred by but not sold by ARE...tucked her into her bed with nice new soil and she was doing great. Then my goats got out, courtesy of a gate I left open, and all my 17 roses received a very thorough pruning. And all of them came back just fine; in fact Red Ribbons was blooming her butt off in less than three weeks. But Ballerina got a few leaf starts and then started turning black at the tips. I snipped the dead tips off, pruned back a couple dead twiggy canes and a couple days later noticed more black tips. Within three days the entire rose was solid black and dead as the dickens. I pulled her out and the root system looked fine, the soil looked fine, everything looked fine except the blackened rose. She'd been getting regular water and was even in a spot where she had shelter from the worst of the afternoon sun. This is the only one of 17 roses that did this and thankfully was nowhere near any of the others. Any idea what killed my rose???
