Winsley 2008 - no Blooms all Summer

Hello All -

We have a Winsely 2008, in a pot. It had a tough winter in side and was scraggly this spring, but now has LONG thick canes. We have exceptionally hard water and feed miracle grow rose formula. All of our other roses(in pots) have been busting with buds this summer (Abrahm Darby, Princes of Kent, Graham Thomas, plus 3 other non-Austin varieties) any advice or tips to get a few buds before summer is out. We will be planting them in the spring b/c we are moving and won't have to have a potted garden any longer!

To my astonishment, I could not find this rose on Help Me Find. What kind of rose is it? Where, approximately, do you live? I presume a cold winter climate?

Anyway, it sounds as if this rose was traumatized, but is now recovering. I would cut back on the fertilizer - sometimes too much nitrogen makes roses grow instead of bloom. Very glad to hear that you will be planting it in the ground in the Spring - it should be able to get established then, and grow normally and bloom.

Jackie, I think this is actually WISLEY 2008, with no "N".

Thanks, John. Now I found it. One of the pictures looks as if it could be a climber in this country - that would explain why it is putting out "long, thick canes" instead of blooming - it is waiting to bloom until it thinks it has achieved a respectable height. In any case, planting it in the ground should solve everything.
