Cooler weather

The Pacific Ocean is doing a good job of cooling things off for the last week or two. The bushes don't grow as fast as when it's warmer or get fried when there are multiple 100+ days. I can enjoy looking at a bloom on the bush for days.
When it's hot, bud opening in the morning and spent in the afternoon.

Yes yes and yes! I was celebrating it on the CA forum as well.

I got some perfect Honor blooms the other day. I thought the only thing missing is fragrance. I cut them and put them in a vase with some huge Papa Ms. A day later they all had strong fragrance. I don't remember Honor having such a good fragrance. I should cut them more often. Rouge Royale and Souv. M are loking good too. Everything has a good size and color and the flowers open slowly and last for days. Can't we have another month of this fine weather please? I think of it as a compensation for the hell wind that devastated my spring flush earlier.

It's perfect in the daytime here but too cool at night...low 50s. Gettibg quite a few bull nose blooms out of it. The Austins seem to do o.k. regardless, but some of the HT's and floribundas aren't liking it at all. I'm envious of you folks down south!

And if you think it's cool there...it's down right chilly here! I don't know if we're getting cool breezes coming from the west or down from Canada but we've already been down to the 40s at night here, in August! Yikes!

Kitty, my conditions are just like yours. My spring flush was a joke and the hot winds put the roses in a tailspin for quite some time. It was ugly, but now, when it should be hot, it's really pleasant and the roses are loving it. I wish it would last all summer, but that's a pipe dream. Still, every day like this is a gift for me and the garden.

It's cool here too and what I'm afraid of is mildew. My minifloras get it bad, so I sprayed for it with Rubigan. Shows are coming up soon and I don't want wrinkled foliage.
When it is nice during the day with cool nights you'll get mildew. The humidity is high right now.

I am loving the cool ... low 90s. I can get work done for more than three hours a day. It's amazing how many projects appear when there is more time to do things. When it's hot, I just do what needs to be done to get the rose through the heat. Now, I can actually finish some of the projects I started.

This is the first summer I've had a chance to work more than three hours a day before it was too hot to be outside.

Oh, yeah, the blooms are lasting longer.

It got into the mid 50's last night and should reach into the mid 70's today...
