Anyone used an EZ Flo fertilizer system? I'm looking at using it with a Dramm watering wand....has anyone used it this way?

The EZ Flo works by bleeding a volume of pure water into a fertilizer reservoir, thereby forcing out an equal volume of fertilizer solution into the hose stream. The problem with this system is that the rate of addition of fertilizer continually decreases as the concentration of fertilizer in the reservoir decreases. So, when half the fertilizer in the reservoir has been delivered to your plants, the amount of fertilizer delivered per gallon of water from the hose end is also halved. In other words, if you fertilize from an EZ Flo with a watering wand, you have to spray the second plant for a longer period of time than the first plant to deliver the same amount of fertilizer, and the third plant longer yet, and so on.

As I see it, the EZ Flo is only useful when used with a drip system where all the plants receive the same application at the same time and then only when the entire amount of fertilizer in the reservoir is delivered - so you will know how much fertilizer you've added.

yes, I had one of those thingies - for which you had to buy the specific fertiliser to fit the hose system (I won mine as a prize in a garden quiz). Once the original supplies ran out, I could never actually refill the resevoir with a fertilser of my choice and guarantee an even flow. It currently languishes in my shed as I prefer to be in charge when adding extra (to my tomatoes, mainly) as each plant has different needs. I guess I resented having the ability taken out of my hands....and I certainly didn't feel overly confident that everything was working at optimal levels either. Another time-saving, but not really, device bites the dust.

If you haven't spent money on one already, WIrosarian, send me an email. I have one languishing somewhere down in my cellar; you can have it just for postage costs. I think I used it once with Mills EZ feed - long ago when I was spraying and fertilizing like crazy. I've since slid into a much more relaxed and survival-of-the-fittest mode and I don't expect I'll get it out and use it ever again.

Thanks Anne but the more I look at the EZ Flo, I agree with Mike's comment that it probably doesn't work well with a watering wand. I guess I'll have to do more looking, anyone use a siphon?
