Where to buy Black Magic rose?

I saw Black Magic rose at one of the local nurseries two years ago and missed the chance to buy it. I have been looking for it ever seen (I checked Jackson & Perkins and some other online sources.) and haven't found it anywhere.

Do you know where I can buy it and any reason why it's not carried by those places even though it is such a beautiful rose?

If anyone knows any red HT that has the most velvet texture, long stem and beautiful shape, please let me know. Thanks.

The propagation of the variety Black Magic is not legal under the J&P's patent until 2018. Therefore, it's J&P or no where. Sorry.

K&M has Black Magic on their list for 2013.

I contacted K&M , unfortunately they don't have it either. Here is the response I got from James Mills of K&M:

"Sorry, we will not be able to sell this rose next season, Jackson and perkins will only have it on own roots"

Anyone who knows other places that sell this rose, please let me know. Thanks.

Bayarea-girl -- A rose that's very similar to 'Black Magic' in color, velvety texture and classic HT form is 'Black Baccara'. It's currently listed by several vendors. It's available as an own-root plant (Roses Unlimited & Heirloom), or grafted on Dr. Huey (Regan Nursery & S&W Greenhouse); on Multiflora (Palatine); and on Fortuniana (K&M).

Hi,

I do not know if you would be interested in cuttings or if you are looking for a grafted plant? I still have my Black Magic and will likely have my stepson move it to the other side of the house. It is a large healthy plant. I have never taken cuttings from a rose bush nor grown cuttings, and I do not know if it is the right time of year, but that could be an option if you do not have luck finding it.

Thank you for all the responses especially desertgarden561 for the cutting offer. Luckily J&P finally has this for sell today so I just ordered it. Can't wait to plant it when it's arrived.

I like to collect the hybrid tea red roses with the most velvet petals :)

Add "Oklahoma" to your list, if you don't already have it. I don't grow many red roses, but I did grow this one once, it was dark red, velvet, with good fragrance.
