Black Magic vs Barkarole (Taboo)

I have Black Magic and love it. Palatine has Barkarole. How do the 2 roses compare or what's your experience with Barkarole? Is it disease prone, fragrant, producer, recyles fast, vaselife, e.g? Thanks in advance.

I have Bakarole, I have somehow never had any luck with Black Magic. I am thinking about trying Black Magic on Fortunia and growing it in a container. I had two Black Magics from Jackson and Perkins (puny when I got them!) a few years ago and they both croaked on me:(
I like Barkarole (aka, Taboo) pretty well. None of the real dark reds repeat that well for me. I also have Oklahoma,Black Baccara, Munstead Wood, and Tradescant to name a few. They are mostly Spring bloomers with scattered blooms here and there. All are fairly new roses though, and this year had been brutal with the heat and the drought. Bakarole is fairly disease resistant for a hybrid tea, she gets a little blackspot in the Spring but nothing too major.

I have Barkarole and I love it. I'm in the middle of a major blackspot & either anthracnose or cercospora attack right now, and Barkarole is still clean. I'd say the repeat is average; neither too fast nor too slow for me. The scent is noticeable but not overpowering; I'd describe it as a black-cherry scented rose. Then again, I think my nose is highly influenced by what my eye sees. I think russet colored roses smell like cinnamon.

I'd say the vase life averages around 3 days, and would probably improve for most anyone else since I don't do much to prolong vase life. It's not a prolific producer, but it also did not shut down in our 90+ heat wave. It's easy to deadhead & usually shows me exactly where it wants to be snipped. I appreciate that quality in a rose.

I'm even fond of the way the very edges of the petals blacken/crispen in the sun. Oh yes---mine is on multiflora from Palatine as well. I can't compare it to anything because the only "black" roses I have are it & the mini Black Jade.

Mine gets morning shade and afternoon sun, which is the opposite of how I'd prefer its exposure. If I had a place to put her that received morning sun & afternoon shade, I'd probably be on the forum raving about her every day.
