| I'm darned if I know where in our garden I am going to plant a basically-orange rose, but this sure is striking.

| Jeri, I ordered it after your last post about, and LOVE it! It's just such a unique color and form! Even the canes grow a little curly and snake-like (well dragon-like I guess lol) Mine is still in a 1g pot growing out a little. I probobly won't plant it until Spring, but I'm thinking of putting it in semi shade so it will keep its color deeper. I'm hoping it performs well there, if not I'll have to move it. Thanks for posting it! |

| I hope you don't mind me posting this on your thread, but I wanted to show how serpetine like the canes are (peduncles? I think that may be the correct term...maybe not) So unique! |

| The orange is quite variable, Jeri. It's often much less orange, more russet and blood red tones when I've seen it at JD's house. I know you will quickly learn to overlook the orange and come to love it. Amazing result from Ralph's "New Bourbon", definitely out of Grandmother's Hat crossed with 1-72-1, the sister seedling to Rise'n shine. You can tell the "daddy" was Brown Velvet. That's what gives it such wonderful muting. It should be quite good for you there. The link below is Dragon Blood's "mama". Kim |

| Oh my goodness. I love it. I think I NEED this one. |
|
| Yes, Kim -- in cooler weather, it's been more russet. I think it likely needs afternoon shade, to keep it from being too Orange -- so maybe it could live near the aeoniums, under the big Platicerium bifurcatum. I like it's mother. :-) I can see where it got its stamens. I actually brought it home chiefly because Grandmother's Hat was behind it. THIS bloom, opening in our mizzible heatwave, is the most orange I've seen it. :-) Jeri |

| Jeri, I have its mother. She's yours if you want her. Kim |

| Kim -- I do. But not while the Pot Ghetto is this full. And not while I still have a half-dozen plants out there with no tags, thanks to Katie! But, FWIW, another couple of YOUR roses are about to pop open out there, including the pink one, with the wild sepals ... :-) Jeri |
|
| Neat! Thanks! I can't wait to see how they look in your garden! Kim |

| Jeri, it is that coveted russet in the first spring flush. It progressively gets orange in the hot summer 2nd flush, and goes back to russet in the fall. It is variable with the temperatures. And it is a very hardy rose, taking the minus zero temps without missing a beat. However, it does require spraying because it is prone to BS. |

| Terryjean -- Blackspot is a very rare visitor here. Our fungal diseases are rust and mildew -- and don'cha know -- roses billed as "disease-free" because they don't blackspot can be rusted, mildewy messes here. Dragon's Blood hasn't (so far) done any of those things. It remains to be seen how orange it will be, in summer, in our normally temperate climate. (Almost no one here has ever had air conditioning.) But I believe I will plant it in afternoon shade. O'course, there's always the possibility that the unusual heat we've had for the last week could become our "new normal." If that should happen, rose color will be the least of my worries! Jeri |
