Does anyone grow Morning Has Broken?

How does it bloom for you? And re-bloom? What about the overall appearance of the shrub? I know it is supposed to be very disease-resistant, but if it wasn't for you, please let me know.

I actually had Morning Has Broken a couple years ago, but the poor thing was so mistreated that it just up and died one day before it ever had a chance to strut its stuff. Now before anyone accuses me of rose-abuse, it was the construction guys driving their equipment over it --who knows how many times before I got home from work. So I moved it to a shady place (because I didn't have a sunny place available). It wasn't real crazy about shade, so a couple months later I moved it to a very sunny spot which (I did not realize) the sprinkler couldn't quite reach. After about doing it in from lack of water, I rushed the hose over there and proceeded to nearly drown it (got busy doing something else and forgot about the hose). Upshot was that it didn't return the next year.

I've got a good spot for it now and might try it again--with proper care this time, I promise. So what has been your experience with it?

Kate

Since you haven't gotten a reply yet, I checked on HelpMeFind. If you can read member comments on that rose, it seems to sulk in a pot but do very well in the ground once it gets established. One grower says it ends up about six feet across and at least four feet high. Big sprays, repeat, good disease resistance.

It was resistant to BS for a year or two here, but later it started getting BS really bad every year. I got rid of mine because of this. The fragrance was nice and I loved the blooms.

I ordered one of these last year from Heirloom Roses. It grew to about 2 feet the first year and kept a beautiful rounded form. It blooms here throughout the whole year. It was the first rose to bloom (early April) and the last to stop blooming (October) last year. I did get a little blackspot, but that's everywhere here. This year I'm spraying all my roses with mancozeb and Banner Maxx.

This is a beautifully scented yellow rose -- my favorite of the varieties we grow.

I've had this rose for about 7-8 years now. It topped out at about 4 feet in height & is a true keeper in my coastal Oregon garden. If it does get blackspot, it's so little that I never have to spray it. I never cut it back. And it blooms all summer. A very good rose!

My experience with it is the same as Olga's. It was vigorous, healthy for several years, bloomed a lot, but later became bs prone. I got rid of it. It didn't have any fragrance to me. I like Well Being better for a yellow rose. It is more compact, has more petals, has better bs resistance, has rust colored edges, is very fragrant and reblooms well. Molineux and Golden Celebration do better here than MHB. Autumn Sunset is a good amber yellow and can be grown as a big shrub. It has good bs resistance. Another one that is pretty healthy is Nachitoches Yellow, but I'm not sure of the spelling. Oh, coming in my front door awhile ago I noticed Danae starting to bloom and thought how sweet it looks. It is a very healthy plant. The yellow is lovely but fades so fast to almost white. Still, it's a good one with a nice plant shape..I guess it could probably climb- it is a bit sprawly but like a soft fountain. MHB was very upright and a pretty nice shaped plant.
