Yes, HUGE, beautiful flowers which crisped in Newhall as the petals unfurled. Anything over the mid seventies and it fried...QUICKLY, but the color is gorgeous (even fried) and the petals are ENORMOUS. Kim

I've never seen it, but I recall an ARS article long ago where the writer had tracked the number of days in bloom per season for all her roses, and Oldtimer finished last. She said it was worth waiting, though.

Unfortunately, the waxed and bagged 'Oldtimers' available every year in my neck of the woods have had a particulary virulent form of RMV, or have proven to be some nondescript yellow rose that bears no resemblance to 'Oldtimer'.

Frustrated, and longing to replace the 'Oldtimer' I grew in a previous garden, the first custom order I placed with Vintage was for its virus-indexed selection of 'Oldtimer'. It eventually arrived here one early fall but did not survive its first winter. Live and learn. I think the fates have determined that 'Oldtimer' shall never again grow in a garden of mine.

Oldtimer was not a good rose in my climate. Probably needed somewhere cooler with a shorter powdery mildew season. It was a vigorous grower but bud to blown cycle was extremely short for the blooms.

The great thing about having a rose garden is that you can plant whatever you want for whatever reason you want.

If you like orangey-colored HTs, you might want to look at "Liverpool Remembers" - it's really pops in the garden. Aside from its thorniness, it's a nice rose and IMHO a much better one than "Oldtimer". for that color range
